Fine Arts
Whether your student is musically inclined, shines in the spotlight, or would rather pick up a paintbrush than a pen, the Fine Arts Department at LCA provides creative opportunities for everyone interested in pursuing art, music and drama. With award-winning programs and experienced faculty, our students get an early start in developing their talents. We believe creativity is a gift and a reflection of the creative God who made us. With that knowledge, we seek to foster an environment of artistic possibility that inspires students and gives them a variety of opportunities for expression through instrumental and vocal music, theatre arts, visual arts, and visual media.
FINE ARTS ACADEMIC PATHWAY
Beginning with the Class of 2025, LCA students may choose to pursue a Performing or Visual Arts Academic Pathway. These personalized learning opportunities for our students help ensure that they meet their goals and allow LCA to continue to equip and nurture students to fulfill God’s calling on their lives through Christ-centered education. Learn more here about our Academic Pathways.
Annual Musical Performance
Each spring, LCA students will present a musical or drama. Over the years, LCA students have entertained their audiences with performances of Music Man, The Wizard of Oz, Shrek, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Bye Bye Birdie, and Cinderella.
Student Theatre Club
A recent addition to LCA's drama program has been the student-led Theatre Club, which has allowed students to perform plays and gain acting experience along with people and team-building skills. The LCA Theatre Club has performed The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, Radium Girls, Hotel Transylvania, Alice in Wonderland, and Charlie & The Chocolate Factory.
Visual Arts
Students in pre-k (preschool) and elementary attend art class once a week. The art program is based on the philosophy that all children are given the gift of creativity, in the image of their Creator. The lessons begin with simple lines and shapes, increase with art skills and use of experience as the grades advance. In junior high and high school, students have the opportunity to select art as an elective course. The elective courses allow students to delve into the world of art by studying great artists, growing their creativity, and fine-tuning their technical skills.
VOCAL PROGRAMS
ELEMENTARY
Beginning in fourth grade, students are invited to sing in the LCA Elementary Chorus. Established in 2018, these students have had the privilege to perform for Friendship International and LCA's 30th Anniversary Celebration. They have also performed the national anthem at Keeneland, a UK Women's Basketball Game, an LCA Boys Basketball Game, and at a Lexington Legends game. Students in Elementary Chorus have the opportunity to audition for All-State Chorus as well.
Junior High
This award-winning junior high program has received Distinguished ratings at the state-wide KMEA Choral Assessment, both Distinguished and Proficient ratings at the state-wide KMEA Solo & Ensemble competition, and has placed at the top of their division at the Tri-State Music in the Parks Competition. Students perform in school concerts, are cast in the high school musical, perform in the annual Cabaret show, and volunteer in outreach programs to bring music to the community.
HIGH SCHOOL
LCA offers many opportunities for students who love to sing. Students can participate in Chamber Choir, Men's Chorus, Treble Choir, or the Women's Chorus. These LCA vocal groups have performed all over the country including Chicago, Philadelphia and Radio City Musical Hall in New York City. They have also had amazing experiences performing in Europe as well.
